Media Release 17 March 2019
Right to Life condemns the terrorist attack on innocent and defenceless Muslims at prayer at two Christchurch Mosques. There were 50 men, women and children cruelly murdered in cold blood in an appalling violation of their sanctity of life at the Al Noor mosque and the Linwood mosque. It was also a violation of their right to freedom of religion. It is appalling that they were slaughtered at a prayer assembly where they had gathered to pray and give homage to God. This is a tragedy and a violation of human rights. We join the community in extending our love and support to the Muslim community. May God have mercy on our grieving community, grant eternal rest to the victims of the day’s unspeakable violence, grant healing to those wounded and comfort to the families of the bereaved.
Right to Life is opposed to violence against both the unborn and the born. When we lose respect for the right to life for the unborn we lose respect for the right to life of all people.
Right to Life commends and applauds the heroic efforts being made by the doctors and nurses at the Christchurch Public Hospital to provide compassion and outstanding care for over forty wounded and suffering victims of the massacre.
The Prime Minister is to be commended for making a commitment to review our gun laws in New Zealand in order to prevent a similar massacre occurring in the future in this country.
However every day in New Zealand approximately 35 innocent and defenceless unborn children are violently killed before they are born, this too is a massacre, and our child abuse death rates are among the highest in the world.
The Prime Minister is requested to promote greater respect for life, protection from terror of every member of our human family both born and unborn.
