Official Information Request to:
Mr Chris Fleming, CEO, Southern District Health Board, April 3rd
Dear Mr Fleming,
Official Information Act- Request
I have been advised that the Southern DHB has entered into a contract with Magma Healthcare Ltd, to provide an abortion service in Invercargill, previously provided by the Kew hospital. Right to Life is opposed to the killing of innocent and defenceless unborn children, which is intrinsically evil and a violation of the human rights of the unborn. We believe women are the second victims of abortion who are wounded and are often left with a lifetime of grief and sorrow. Since 1977 it has been our policy that when the law provides for abortions that they should be performed only in Public Hospitals. This contract raises a number of important questions.
I therefore wish to request under the Official Information Act the following information:-
1.Please provide a copy of the contract?
2.Is the provider’s facility required to be registered as a hospital?
3.Is the provider required to have adequate surgical equipment in its facility to deal with complications arising from abortions they have performed.
4.What is the price paid to the provider for each abortion performed?
5.Will the provider be required to provide counselling in its facility to women before and after an abortion?
6.Will the provider be allowed to provide Mifepristone and Misoprostol to women having a medical abortion to complete the abortion at home?
7.What provision will the provider have should complications occur requiring specialist care?
8.Will the person performing the surgical abortions be a registered medical practitioner?
9.Will the person performing the surgical abortions be a specialist gynaecologist?
Yours sincerely,
Ken Orr
Secretary,
