Media Release 8 May 2022
The Roe Wade decision unleased on the United States, a 49 year reign of terror of violence on women and their precious unborn. Abortion stops a beating heart, it kills an innocent and defenceless child and wounds its mother. Since 1973 more than 64 million unborn children have been poisoned, sucked out of their mother’s womb or been violently dismembered with the precious remains treated as medical waste. This is a violation of human rights and a crime against humanity.
Right to Life deplores the unlawful leaking of a draft opinion of Justice Samuel Alito. It is encouraging that this opinion has the support of five members of the Supreme Court.
The Roe Wade decision written by Justice Harry Blackmun in 1973 constitutes one of the most unjust decisions made by the Court. It was badly decided by ill-informed men and had no basis in the law or history of the United States or in English Common Law. International law is silent on abortion and there is no human right to abortion.
The disastrous effects of the Roe Wade decision were:-
- That the unborn child was not a human being, did not have a right to life and did not have the protection of the United States Constitution.
- That the States were denied the right to legislate to protect their unborn children from being killed before birth.
- Established a right to abortion for women on the Constitution’s provision to protect privacy.
- Established a right to abortion for any reason during the first trimester, permitted abortion in the second trimester to save the life of the mother or to prevent serious damage to a woman’s health. During the third trimester States could ban abortion.
The overthrow of Roe Wade will then acknowledge the right of States to legislate to protect their unborn children from being killed before birth. There are 19 States that would ban abortion and 7 that would severely restrict abortion.
These States recognise that abortion is an abominable crime against nature and against women, a crime that society should prohibit and eliminate. It is always wrong to kill an innocent person. The law should protect the inalienable right to life of every human being from conception to natural death.
Right to Life is passionately feminist and challenges those who claim to be feminists and advocate for the right of women to kill their children before birth. Authentic feminism is non-discriminatory, inclusive and non–violent and protective of all life especially the unborn.
The pro-abortion movement with its allies in government, in Congress and in the media are outraged at the prospect of the imminent overthrow of Roe v. Wade claiming that it violates the right of women to abortion.
The overthrow of Roe v. Wade will be a victory for a culture of life and a defeat for the culture of death, its repercussions will reverberate throughout the world including New Zealand. This overthrow will herald a new age of respect for women and for their precious unborn who are created in the image and likeness of their Creator. Right to Life is committed to continue campaigning for legal recognition of the unborn child as a human being endowed with a right to life from implantation and for the repeal of the extremist anti-life Abortion Legislation Act 2019.
“We need to show that we can create a world where we can love children and not kill them. A world where adoption is always a better option, a world where we care for women and their children. This is our opportunity to make the grisly performance of abortion like slavery unthinkable in a civilised modern society”.
