TV 3 News – Complaint
I wish to lodge a formal complaint against an item that was presented in an item in the 6pm News on Wednesday 19 June 2013. The item was concerning the abortion statistics for 2012 released that day by Statistics New Zealand.
The pro-life movement is disappointed that one of the following organisations was not contacted and invited to make an informed comment on the very important abortion statistics for 2012…
My complaint is that in my opinion the item breaches the Free-To-Air Television Code of Broadcasting Practice Standard 4 – Controversial Issue - Viewpoints.
My complaint is that the item included comment only from the pro-abortion organisation Abortion Law Reform Association, (ALRANZ). This organisation has a national membership of about 100 members and clearly has very minimal support in the community. The organisation is currently conducting with the New Zealand Family Planning Association a national campaign to have abortion decriminalised; this would remove any legal protection for the right to life of children in the womb. A woman would then be able to request an abortion for any reason or for no reason for the whole nine months of pregnancy up to birth.
