Dear Friends of Life,
You are no doubt aware that our Prime Minister has made it her agenda to decriminalise abortion. She has directed the Minister of Justice, Andrew Little to require the Law Commission to determine how abortion can best be removed from the Crimes Act and made a health issue.
The Law Commission is the organisation which reviews, reforms and develops New Zealand law.
Little has directed the Commission to put other work aside to concentrate on this matter.
This is a cunning move on her part as a similar strategy by Pro-Abortion advocates succeeded in getting abortion decriminalised in the State of Victoria in Australia.
The Law Commission will now consult health professionals and is now accepting submissions from the public on this issue.
Submissions may be made to the Law Commission at,
Email address: alr@lawcom.govt.nz

In October the Commission will report back to Little with its recommendations.
If the Labour Green Cabinet opt for a change in the law, a government bill will be drafted. Cabinet will discuss the report. If they decide to change the law, a Government Bill will be drafted and sent to the Cabinet for consideration and approval. Cabinet consists of Labour and New Zealand First MPs. If that bill passes it’s first reading then just like David Seymours End of Life Choice bill, it would then go before a Parliamentary Select Committee and be open to public submissions before going up for a second reading and thence into law if it passes it’s third reading.
It is imperative for a great many reasons that we do not see the law changed and abortion removed from the Crimes Act.
If we don’t want to see the last legal protections for our unborn children removed then it is crucial that as many people as possible speak out by making a submission to the Law Commission giving reasons why abortion must remain on our Crime statues.
Unlike in submissions made to the Parliamentary Health Select Committee on the issue of David Seymours “End of Life Choice” bill, submissions to the Law Commission need not provide name address or phone number.
Right to Life encourages you to make a submission as soon as possible. Following the links below will guide you in this process.
