Media Release 23 July 2022
Right to Life believes that abortion is not health care and asks the Minister of Health, Andrew Little, does he really believe that the government is caring for women by offering and funding women to have 10 or more abortions?
Information received by Right to Life from the Ministry of Health reveals that there were 18 women who had an abortion in 2020 where it was recorded that the women had seven or more abortions. There were:
- Nine women who had reported having seven previous abortions.
- Six women who had eight previous abortions.
- Three women who had ten or more previous abortions.
On 11 February 2022, the Ministry of Health responded to our request and withheld this information under section 9[2] [a] of the Act, to protect the privacy of natural persons. Right to Life challenged this decision by laying a complaint with the Ombudsman. Right to Life is grateful to the Ombudsman for upholding our complaint and obtaining this important information.
Right to Life is deeply concerned at the suffering that is inflicted on these victimised women. Abortion is violence against women and their precious unborn. Right to Life believes that many of these women are victims of physical and sexual abuse and have been coerced into destroying their child.
These women are facing a lifetime of grief, sorrow and psychological and physical damage inflicted on them by the loss of their children.
We deceive ourselves and betray these exploited women if we consider that killing the children of these women is doing them a service, which in the words of our Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern, is a reproductive health choice.
We should rend our garments and cover our heads with penitential ashes as we consider man’s inhumanity to women.
Will our Parliament harken to the plight of these women and reject their abandonment of women and their precious unborn with their claim that the abortion law is decided law and will not be changed in a future Parliament?
The Abortion Supervisory Committee that previously oversaw abortion in New Zealand reported that one third of abortions were repeat abortions.
A study conducted at the Waikato Hospital in 2005 revealed that 50% of women seeking an abortion were subject to physical or sexual abuse.
A study conducted at the Epsom Day Abortion Clinic in 2010 found that one third of women seeking an abortion were victims of domestic violence.
Women deserve better than abortion, they and their defenceless unborn deserve our love and protection.
