Right to Life recognises the life and service to our society and the unborn of Herman Jansen, who passed away recently at the age of 93 years.
Herman joined our society in 1987 and he served on the committee for many years. He was a past President of the society, when it was under the name of the Canterbury Branch of the Society for the Protection of the Unborn Child (SPUC). In his later years he will be remembered for always bringing the supper at our AGM. Many appreciated his warm and friendly manner.
Herman was a Dutch immigrant who emigrated from the Netherlands to New Zealand with his wife Corrie in the 1950’s. For many years, Herman, along with others, would go down twice a week to the Lyndhurst Abortion mill on Bealey Ave in Christchurch at 6:30 am to pray for the unborn children and their mothers. Only God knows how many lives have been saved through their prayers.
Herman was predeceased by his wife Corrie, and one son Francis, and is survived by a son, one daughter and two grandchildren. He will be fondly remembered as a most faithful and tireless servant in the cause of protecting human life.
