Media Release 14 July 2021
Right to Life asks; “why does the government value the lives of Orca killer whales more than the lives of our own unborn children?” It is appalling that we have legislation to protect the lives of Orca but not our own children.
It is an offence to harass, disturb, injure, or kill marine mammals including Orca killer whales. Anyone charged with harassing, disturbing, injuring, or killing a marine mammal faces under the Marine Mammal Protection Act a maximum penalty of two years imprisonment or a fine to a maximum of $250,000.
There is no legal protection for our own unborn children. It is not an offence to harass, disturb, injure or kill a human child in the womb. A doctor who violently kills a child by poisoning, suctioning a child out of the womb or violently dissembling a child will not be charged with an offence, will not be imprisoned nor will she or he face a crippling fine. He will be handsomely rewarded by the state with a lucrative salary. Unborn children are not considered a valuable species. It is not a crime to kill an unborn child which may be killed up to 20 weeks for any reason. After 20 weeks they may be killed up to birth if two doctors consider it appropriate. The killing is funded by the government as a core health service.
This week the community has been moved with heart -warming compassion for a baby Orca that has been separated from its mother and from its family. Heroic efforts have been made by the Fire service, the maritime police and the coastguard to locate the Orca’s mother and her pod. Strenuous efforts have been made by many generous people to protect the baby Orca and to keep it hydrated and nourished with milk replacement. This week the government has been funding the care of this Orca by having staff from the Department of Conservation (DOC) providing care for the Orca.
Right to Life asks;” when the government is going to provide effective legal protection for the lives of our own children before birth?
Why does the government recognise that mammals including Orcas have a right to life endowed by their Creator while denying that our own unborn children have a right to life?”
