The Minister of Health Dr Jonathan Coleman in commenting on the 2017 budget proudly claims that “the government is committed to delivering better health services.”Included in those services is the Termination of Pregnancy Service which is a core health service with unlimited funding and no waiting list.
The unborn child is a very vulnerable patient that deserves special protection, how does the Minister explain that there were more than 13,000 deaths of patients in our hospitals and clinics in 2015? Being a core health service it is imperative that the District Health Boards provide this “service” or fund the woman to go to another DHB. Hidden in the budget are appropriations for an estimated $20 million to cover the annual costs of an estimated 13,000 abortions.
It is an insult to women to call the killing of their child a “service,” it is not a service to women and it is certainly not a service for the unborn.
It is an intolerable injustice that cries out to the heavens for retribution. Since 1973 we the taxpayer have been required to fund the genocide of our own innocent and defenceless children. We have never been consulted or asked if we approve of our taxes being used to fund the killing of the innocent. The government has obligated us all to be complicit in the killing. Pregnancy is not a disease and abortion is not a health service. The unborn child is a patient that is deserving of respect and special protection. It is a national tragedy that every year more than 13,000 unborn patients are taken into public hospitals and clinics not to receive health care but to be killed. When women seek an abortion it is a cry for help. Abortion is not help it is abandonment. It is an indictment on our parliament that at the moment of a woman’s greatest need, pregnant and abandoned we offer her not love and compassion but death for her child.
We should follow the example of the United States where Federal funding of abortion is prohibited by law. It is long overdue that the funding in the budget for abortion should be debated in Parliament. There are no reasons to justify the killing of the unborn. It is time that the government withdrew taxpayer funding for abortions which are not done for health reasons but for socio economic reasons masquerading as psychiatric. The government should be promoting open adoption the loving option and parenting.
