Right to Life Requests that Government Refuse Further Funding of International Planned Parenthood
We believe there is an urgent need for our government to refuse to fund the International Planned Parenthood Federation [IPPF]. The IPPF is seeking to make up for the $400 million in funding that has been withheld by President Trump following the reintroduction of the Mexico City Policy. This policy was first introduced by President Regan in 1984 and had been later revoked by President Obama. The New Zealand Family Planning Association is a very loyal affiliate of the IPPF. The Federation is the greatest threat the world faces to the health of women and to the lives of the defenceless unborn. In 2015 the IPPF claimed to have killed worldwide 964,325 defenceless unborn in their mother’s womb. The IPPF act as though pregnancy is a disease and that the solution to poverty is to kill the children of the poor.
Right to Life is very concerned that Julie Bishop Australia’s Foreign Minister announced last week that Australia was to give the abortion giant IPPF, $9.5 million to continue with its controversial promotion of abortion and its war on women. Please let us not follow our neighbour down the dark corridor of promoting a culture of death.
Right to Life believes that Family Planning will be right now vigorously lobbying our government to provide increased funding to IPPF. It is scandalous that our taxes should be used to inflict violence on vulnerable women and their precious unborn. New Zealand taxpayers should not be funding the killing of the children of women in countries where they don’t even have proper birth facilities or anti-natal care. It is the IPPF that supports the horrendous human rights abuses imposed by the Chinese government on its people with forced abortions of unauthorised pregnancies and compulsory sterilisations of women.
Right to Life asks the New Zealand government to stop funding the IPPF, the NZ Family Planning Association and the UNFPA with our taxes to promote abortifacient contraception and the funding of the killing of the children of the poor through abortions in developing countries.
The imposition of the Mexico City Policy means that organisations like the International Planned Parenthood Federation [IPPF], the United Nations Population Fund and Marie Stopes International, that promote a culture of death with abortifacient contraception and abortion worldwide, will cease to receive funding unless they cease this advocacy. They must also cease imposing pressure on other countries whose people find abortion abhorrent, to decriminalise abortion. It is important to note that pre-natal health care, not related to the killing of unborn children, will still be funded if they cease promoting abortifacient contraception and abortion.
Ken Orr
Spokesperson,
Right to Life.
How can we protest or rather make our pro-life views known to the government and to object to our taxes being used to fund Planned ParentHOod?
Has New Zealand upped its funding to PP?
Good question Marinelle,
Some ideas would be for you and as many others as possible would engage by:
Letters to the Editor of local and national papers
Writing to your local MP and others in Parliament about your concerns.
Speaking on talk back radio
Bringing up this as a discussion topic with friends and family
Voting strategically for Pro-Life politicians or candidates
Voting strategically for local body elections such as Health Boards
Right to Life is awaiting a response regarding a letters to a number of ministers asking questions about PP funding. We will be following up with a press release/s on the response we get. This is a very important issue.
