Right to Life makes no apology for speaking up in defense of the right to life of the unborn child the weakest and most defenceless member of the human family. Right to Life is therefore disappointed that over the last ten months the Green party Members of Parliament have declined to respond to any of the eight letters sent to them from our Society. The correspondence was seeking information on important life issues and clarification of the Party’s policies on parental notification, euthanasia, the decriminalisation of abortion, the “Inside Out” sexuality education programme and the Party’s proposal to restrict freedom of speech and assembly outside the Thames Hospital.
Those who govern do so with the consent of the governed. The electorate have an absolute right to know what policies the Green Party has that they hope to implement when in government. It is a serious threat to our Parliamentary democracy when Members of Parliament in the Green Party who we have elected to govern, believe that the electorate has no right to know what its policies are. They ignore us at their peril.
It should be a matter of grave concern to the electorate that the Green Party that hopes to be government with the Labour Party is the most secretive Party in Parliament.
Right to Life fully supports the Green Party’s policy of the full open Government and democracy Policy one which declares that Government and democracy must be clean, transparent and fair.The policy states that;
New Zealanders have the right to information used to make decisions that affect their lives, so we must make it easier for people to actively engage as citizens in our democracy.
Right to Life asks why the Green Party is not upholding its own policy on providing important information on the Party’s policy?
Right to Life reminds the Green Party parliamentarians that it is the taxpayer who provides them with comfortable offices, generous salaries, travel expenses for both overseas and within New Zealand and attractive superannuation. To enable the Members of Parliament to communicate with the electorate we the taxpayer provide them with telecommunications and secretarial services. There really is no excuse for their failure to engage with New Zealanders to provide them with the information that they need to ,make decisions that affect their lives..

While I don’t particularly like this turn of events either, I hope there will be a balancing piece on the ACT Party and its radical libertarian agenda. I suspect David Seymour probably agrees completely with the decriminalisation of abortion and euthanasia, and opposes parental consent and notification. Don’t forget, it is the ACT Party that has the End of Life “Choices” Bill in the ballot box. Certainly, the Greens should be criticised for their anti-life policies, but all but one New Zealand First MP voted for Peter Browns “Death With Dignity Bill” in 2005, which would have gotten it past its first reading too. It seems that the only honourable minor party in Parliament is the Maori Party.
