Right to Life emphatically opposes the new 0800 telephone “service” that Dr Simon Snook an abortionist, has established to enable women considering an abortion to have the killing of their child authorised over the phone without the need for a doctor to interview the woman.
Right to Life Patron, Dr Norman Maclean, MNZM, a distinguished retired Obstetrician and Gynaecologist of Invercargill, is appalled at this development. He describes it as unprofessional, unethical, shameful and a gross trivialising of a very serious legal process.
Right to Life asks how can a doctor claim to diagnose serious mental ill health issues in a woman he has never met, whom he does not know, whose medical history he does not have, whom he cannot examine and whom he may never see again. How can a doctor with a modicum of conscience sign a certificate authorising the killing of an innocent and defenceless child on the basis of a brief telephone conversation? Who will protect women and their precious unborn from this cruel charade?
Simon Snook has been the subject of a number of Right to Life Media releases over the last few years. These releases can be viewed at the bottom of this post.
Right to Life believes that it is reasonable to assume that the Abortion Supervisory Committee that presides over the abortion industry in New Zealand is aware of this development and has given approval for its establishment. if this is so then Parliament should seriously consider replacing the Committee.
This deplorable development is both demeaning to women and an insult to their dignity. It is inferring that the unborn child has no worth and its right to life can be ignored and that its killing can be authorised and conveniently arranged over the telephone. If today we can authorise the killing of the unborn over the phone, will we tomorrow be able to arrange with a doctor the killing of the disabled the elderly and the seriously ill in the same way?
Right to Life believes that this deplorable development exposes the cruel charade that is imposed on women by certifying consultants who are determined to use the facade of mental health grounds as a means of providing abortion on demand to healthy women with potentially normal pregnancies who are so often coerced into having an abortion against their will.
Dr Snook was quoted in the North & South magazine in September 2013, as saying in an interview that, “the law is an ass and was being manipulated.” Right to Life believes that Dr Simon Snook is in breach of medical ethics and the legal requirements expected of certifying consultants. His appointment as a certifying consultant should be immediately withdrawn.
