Right to Life has received the Broadcasting Standards Authority decision on a complaint made by Right to Life (and Family First) following the interview of Cecile Richards the CEO of Planned Parenthood of America on Radio New Zealand’s Saturday Morning programme. New Zealand’s Family Planning is of course an affiliate and daughter body of Planned Parenthood International. These organisations are at the forefront of promoting the abortion killing of unborn children under the guise of providing ‘reproductive rights’. The decision of the Broadcasting Standards Authority was most disappointing but not unexpected. Right to Life is committed to challenge any programme on radio or Television that undermines the right to life of human beings from conception to natural death.
For the BSA to say that this programme was not required to meet the requirements of the Code of Practice is respectfully challenged. Radio NZ claims that this was an in-depth interview which added to New Zealander’s overall intellectual understanding in a broad sense. This interview was certainly not an in depth interview and would have left listeners believing that Planned Parenthood was an advocate for women and was providing a wonderful service to the community. I readily agree that the activities of Planned Parenthood is not a matter of controversy for many New Zealanders. The reason for this is that the media have worked hard to ensure that the populace is not informed of the damage this organisation is inflicting on communities in the United States.
Radio NZ deservedly has a reputation for maintaining a very high standard of broadcasting journalism. It was thus a great disappointment for us that the interview failed to challenge or discuss the very real issues that make Planned Parenthood a highly controversial organisation and one that is involved in fraud and criminal activity in the US. This concerns issues such as the non- reporting of statutory rape and having teenagers smuggled across State boundaries to avoid laws requiring parental notification and consent and the cover up of botched abortions . Planned Parenthood is the major abortion provider in the USA. Since 1970 abortions that it has performed have resulted in the deaths of 5,300,000 unborn children.
Planned Parenthood is so controversial in the United States that the US Congress has voted to defund it.
Fraudulently claiming Federal funding, In 2011 Planned Parenthood received $542 million and is being investigated for numerous accusations of fraud and for operating clinics that were unsafe for women. The federation is the largest provider of abortions performing 333,964 abortions in 2011. Planned Parenthood received more than half a billion in tax dollars in one year alone. It faces numerous accusations of fraud and claims of unsafe conditions at some of its abortion clinics. It is being investigated at the request of the House of Representatives by the Government Accountability Office.
A Texas affiliate of the organization, paid $4.3 million in July to settle allegations of fraud in billing to a health program for the poor. The settlement was $3 million more than what had been announced earlier by the Texas Attorney General.
Seven States have defunded Planned Parenthood with many other defunding actions in progress. The reason, Planned Parenthood aggressively promotes abortion.
Planned Parenthood constantly opposes the rights of parents to care for their teenage girls by using the courts to challenge State parental notification and consent laws. The Federation also unlawfully takes girls across State lines without the knowledge of parents to avoid parental notification and consent laws.
Planned Parenthood has covered up the sexual abuse of minors by failing to report statutory rape to the Police.
Planned Parenthood supports the campaign to have the Vatican denied observer status with speaking rights at the United Nations because the Vatican speaks up in defence of women and the right to life of unborn children.
