The New Zealand Family Planning Association on 8 December issued a statement in defence of the use of the lethal drug, Mifegyne, RU 486 for the killing of unborn children in the first 9 weeks of pregnancy. The Association claims that medical abortions are safe. Mifegyne is a murder pill, it is highly effective and has a success rate of 98 per cent in starving to death unborn children. Medical abortions are unsafe for unborn children who are the weakest and most defenceless members of the human family. It is always wrong to kill the innocent. Right to Life believes that Family Planning have a complete disregard for the human rights of unborn children and for the protection of their lives.
The New Zealand Family Planning Association on 8 December issued a statement in defence of the use of the lethal drug, Mifegyne, RU 486 for the killing of unborn children in the first 9 weeks of pregnancy. The Association, an ardent advocate for a culture of death sought to refute recent press releases of Right to Life and other pro-life organisations. Family Planning claims that medical abortions are safe. Mifegyne is a murder pill, it is highly effective and has a success rate of 98 per cent in starving to death unborn children. Medical abortions are unsafe for unborn children who are the weakest and most defenceless members of the human family. It is always wrong to kill the innocent. Abortion Supervisory Committee Report 2008
The Abortion Supervisory Committee’s [ASC] report was tabled in Parliament on 8th December. The Committee reported 17,940 abortions in New Zealand 2008.
This is a reduction of 440 on the 2007 year figure of 18,380. While encouraging, Right to Life reminds New Zealanders that each life is unique and irreplaceable. Hopefully one reason for the decrease is the increasing recognition in the community that abortion not only destroys innocent defenceless unborn children, it also harms the physical and mental health of women and their families.
Right to Life is concerned about the unlawful abortions authorised in 2008.
Right to Life is totally opposed to grants being made to this controversial Association. We know that the Family Planning Association is strongly pro-abortion. The Association is the major abortion referral agency in New Zealand; it believes that we need abortion as a back up for so called failed contraceptives. It supports girls under the age of 16 being able to have an abortion without the knowledge or consent of parents and has an employment policy to employ only doctors who believe that abortion is for a woman to choose in consultation with a doctor of her choice. This is abortion on demand which is unlawful in New Zealand. Justice Miller in the High Court Judicial Review of the performance of the Abortion Supervisory Committee, stated in his judgment in June 2008, that abortion on demand was unlawful and that “there is reason to doubt the lawfulness of many abortions authorised by certifying consultants.” Many doctors employed by Family Planning are certifying consultants.
Right to Life fully supports the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. Violence against women and girls is an international problem of pandemic proportions. Violence against women is always a violation of human rights; it is always a crime and it as always unacceptable.
The Police in New Zealand receive 70,000 family violence calls each year. There are 3,500 convictions against men for violence inflicted on women. Each year there are 14 women who are killed by their partner or ex partner. Violence against women takes many forms. It is disappointing that our community is in denial and refuses to recognise that abortion is violence against vulnerable women and their unborn child.
The screening of unborn babies for Down syndrome with a new national screening programme is further manifestation of a culture of death. It is a search and destroy programme that has as its sole objective the termination of the lives of unborn children.
Human life begins at conception and at that point the newly conceived life is endowed by its Creator with inalienable human rights, the foundation right is a right to life. Our human rights are both inalienable and universal. The termination of the life of the unborn child is a violation of the human rights of the unborn child. A child does not forfeit its right to life because it has Down syndrome. An abortion is the ultimate discrimination against those with a disability.
The Abortion Law Reform Association of New Zealand, 2nd November, continues its propaganda in support of the Family Planning Association’s [NZFPA] application to kill unborn children at its Hamilton clinic.
It is always wrong to kill the innocent. ALRANZ promotes a culture of death under the guise of offering women “a service.” This is an insidious falsehood; it is no service to offer vulnerable women faced with an unplanned pregnancy an offer to kill their baby.
Right to Life New Zealand fully supports the courageous citizens of the Waikato who are expressing their opposition to the Family Planning Association seeking a licence to kill innocent and defenceless unborn children in its Hamilton clinic. Family Planning should be recognised as the strident voice in New Zealand for a culture of death. Family Planning has plans for the future of families in New Zealand. The Association’s latest plans for your family are to apply for a licence to kill unborn children up to 9 weeks gestation. It is their intention to apply for an abortion licence for their 30 clinics in New Zealand.
The public are entitled to be provided with truthful information about the killing of unborn children. Dame Margaret Sparrow the spokesperson for ALRANZ in her media release of the 9th October stated that “having a medical abortion is 10 times safer than giving birth.” This is a falsehood, safe for whom? It is certainly not safe for the unborn child who is killed in her mother’s womb. It is also not safer for the mother who is left with a lifetime of sorrow, regret, spiritual, physical and psychological damage. The use of this drug is intrinsically evil and a violation of the human rights of the unborn.
Right to Life is opposed to the New Zealand Family Planning Association’s application to the Abortion Supervisory Committee [ASC] for a licence to terminate the lives of unborn children at its Hamilton Clinic. The ASC advised Right to Life under the Official Information Act that the Association had made a request for a licence for its Hamilton clinic to perform chemical abortions The Association’s pursuit of a licence to kill unborn children is bad news for the unborn and bad news for women. The Association is promoting a culture of death; it should be seen as a peddler of death.
