Right to Life rejects the call from Jacinda Ardern for the decriminalization of abortion. Jacinda Ardern has on national TV proclaimed her intention to remove abortion from the Crimes Act. Right to Life believes that she is deliberately promoting the dangerous and mischievous lie that the Crimes Act makes criminals out of women who seek an abortion. Jacinda Ardern has a copy of the Crimes Act 1961 in her office and knows the law on abortion full well. The relevant section is section 183, Procuring abortion by any means. It states that killing an unborn child is a serious crime. On conviction a defendant is liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 14 years. It states in The woman or girl shall not be charged as a party to an offence against this section.
Right to Life believes that Jacinda Ardern should make a public retraction and apology for misleading the electorate. Her disingenuous actions raises very serious questions about her trustworthiness to speak the truth. In view of this blatant falsehood can the electorate really trust her? What other deliberate falsehoods has she been guilty of? The electorate has a right to have the truth.
Jacinda Ardern’s position on child poverty is incoherent and hypocritical. She nobly claims that she is in Parliament to reduce child poverty. How then can she be serious about child poverty when she pledges to bring a bill to Parliament to remove abortion from the protection of the Crimes Act and to make the killing of the unborn child a health issue?
Why does she not recognize that the greatest poverty that can be inflicted on a child is to deprive the child of its life in the womb?
The Royal Commission on Contraception Sterilisation and Abortion in its report to Parliament in 1977 stated that, the unborn child was the weakest and most defenceless member of the human family and needed special legal protection. Jacinda Ardern knows that the current laws on abortion follow the recommendations of the Royal Commission. Right to Life believes that it is arrogant for Jacinda Ardern to now claim that we can ignore the findings of the Labour government appointed Royal Commission, that were specific in rejecting abortion on demand.
Jacinda Ardern claims to be a feminist in supporting a woman’s right to kill her child in the womb. She is not. By promoting the decriminalization of abortion she is making war on women. She conveniently forgets that nearly half of the children aborted are female. How does she support women be making it easier to kill women before birth? Since 1977 there have been nearly 250,000 women murdered before they were born. The authentic feminist position as upheld by the founders of the feminist movement in the United States such as Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton in the nineteenth century, were strongly opposed to abortion which they saw as violence against women and their precious unborn. More than a century ago, the same women who fought for women’s rights and for the rights of slaves to be free also fought to protect women and children from abortion. Which side of history does Jacinda Ardern choose to be on?
The support of Jacinda Ardern to remove legal protection for the defenceless unborn should be a call to every member of the community for action to stop this insanity, for If we as a society can deny the humanity of the unborn, then logically, we may one day deny the humanity of those who are suffering from dementia and Alzheimer’s. The denial of the humanity and right to life of the unborn is a threat to the right to life of every citizen.
Right to Life strongly urges Jacinda Ardern to promote a culture of life and not a culture of death.
