Media Release Sunday 29th January 2017
Right to Life applauds President Donald Trump’s signing an executive order to reinstate the Mexico City Policy. This historic action demonstrates his administration’s policy of a consistent government-wide policy that the taxes of the American people will no longer be used to fund inflicting violence on women and the killing of the innocent and defenceless unborn, either overseas. This marks the beginning of the defeat of a culture of death in the United States and hopefully in New Zealand.
This means that organisations like the International Planned Parenthood Federation [IPPF], the United Nations Population Fund and Marie Stopes International, that promote a culture of death with abortifacient contraception and abortion worldwide, will cease to receive funding unless they cease this advocacy. They must also cease imposing pressure on other countries to decriminalise abortion. The IPPF reported doing 964,325 abortions worldwide in 2015. It is important to point out that pre-natal health care not related to the killing of unborn children will still be funded. This fact has been omitted from most western media news outlets.
The American public is overwhelmingly opposed to their tax dollars funding abortion, at home or abroad. A Marist poll conducted in the United States last week revealed that 83 per cent of those polled were opposed to federal funding of contraception and abortion being provided outside of America.
Right to Life asks why the New Zealand government is using our taxes to fund the killing of the children of the poor in developing countries? Our government should now follow America’s example and cease funding a culture of death by withdrawing funding for the New Zealand Family Planning Association and its governing body the IPPF and the UNFPA.
The International Planned Parenthood Federation and the United Nations Population Fund are outraged at the loss of an estimated $400 million in funding each year. President Trump campaigned to take this commendable action to protect the lives of the unborn. The taxpayers of America who have an absolute right to say how their taxes should be spent support this executive order.
President Trump was also elected on the promise that he would defund Planned Parenthood America, the major abortion provider in the United States that receives federal funding of $528 million annually. The Marist poll revealed that 61 per cent of those polled support this defunding which is currently progressing through Congress.
