Right to Life believes that New Zealand can be pleased with the many positive initiatives that have happened at the United Nations under the former Prime Minister John Key. Unfortunately there have been a number of others where New Zealand has been at the forefront of pushing what can only be described as policies that promote a culture of death. With a new Prime Minister, we now have the opportunity to adopt policies that will faithfully promote a culture of life. It is time that New Zealand was faithful in upholding the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights. It is shameful that New Zealand has no policy on the horrendous human rights abuses which have been inflicted on the long suffering people of China since 1979 with its one child family policy, now extended to allow two children. In spite of this relaxation, the human rights abuse in that country continues.
China violates the Declaration of Human Rights by inflicting the following restrictions on the human rights of its own citizens: China outlaws men marrying before 22 years of age and women before 20 years of age. China demands that families have a permit to have a child, with compulsory abortion for unauthorised pregnancies; China imposes compulsory contraception and sterilisation. Since 1971 there have been more than 330 million abortions and more than 196 million compulsory sterilisations. Failure to comply with these draconian restrictions results in punitive fines, imprisonment, destruction of homes and loss of employment. These are horrendous crimes against humanity. How can our government continue to remain silent? Is our trade with this country more important than us supporting human rights?
Right to Life requests that the Prime Minister appoints a Minister of Foreign Affairs who will uphold human rights, oppose a culture of death and promote a culture of life. New Zealand needs to cease the funding of $12 million each year for the United Nations Population Fund [UNFPA] and cease funding the International Planned Parenthood Federation. These two organisations supported by the NZ Family Planning Association are at the forefront of promoting abortifacient contraception sterilisation and abortion worldwide.
New Zealand needs to cease promoting the international agenda of the LGBTQI movement at the United Nations. It currently does this by exerting pressure on the African nations to decriminalise sodomy and to introduce so called “same sex marriage.” The new gender theory claims that the biological sex of individuals as man or woman is irrelevant to their identity but represents a “dictatorship of Nature” against their own self-definition, a dictatorship from which they must be freed. A person’s identity under this theory is instead determined by his sexual orientation and is therefore flexible, changeable and diverse. This move to redefine humanity is insidious and causing great ruptures in our very social fabric. Pope Francis condemns this agenda and calls it, “a war on marriage.”
Right to Life believes that New Zealand’s role at the United Nations should be to promote a culture of life which recognises that the family consists of one man and one woman and their offspring and that this structure is the foundation of a healthy society.
