Right to Life Asks Why Does the Children’s Covenant Exclude Our Most Vulnerable Children?
Right to Life welcomes the Children’s Covenant drafted by Judge Carolyn Henwood. but questions why it discriminates against our most vulnerable children, our unborn.
The most dangerous place for a child today is in its mother’s womb.
Right to Life is concerned that while the Covenant claims to be inclusive of all children, it in fact excludes the most vulnerable of our precious children, the child before birth. It is our view that if we are as a nation are serious about eliminating violence against children we must first eliminate violence against the innocent and defenceless unborn. Every day in New Zealand thirty-five children in the womb are taken to an abortion facility to be violently killed.
Right to Life Commends Labour and the Greens for embracing this important covenant to protect our born children, but asks how can in fact, any of our political parties claim to support protecting our children from violence when they either seek to decriminalise abortion or refuse to take action to protect the lives of those who are the most defenceless. How is it that this violence being daily directed against unborn children be in any possible way regarded as an essential health service? Yet there it is. Not only is this condoned but Labour and the Greens want to fully decriminalise abortion – more of it! Look at the hypocrisy in the following statements:
Jacinda Ardern MP, Labour Party (pictured) and Children’s spokesperson in a media release on 5 August stated,
“It’s important that this covenant is a pledge to all children in this country.”“The covenant is inclusive and it defines the start in life that all Kiwi kids should have, not just the children the Government labels as vulnerable. It promises that children should be protected from all forms of violence, abuse and neglect and it also says that we should strive to provide a proper standard of living for kids.”
Metiria Turei MP co-Leader of the Green Party in a media release on 5 August stated, “Amongst other things, signees of the covenant agree to treasure and respect our children and protect them from violence. We have to do anything and everything we can to protect our babies and to give them the full, rich life that they deserve. “
Both Labour and the Greens, have a policy to support the decriminalization of abortion, which would remove all legal protection for the right to life of our unborn children. This would expose the unborn to increased violence under the guise of abortion being a health service. Right to Life pleads with our politicians to have a Covenant to protect all of our children from violence, both born and unborn.
