Media Release 11th August 2016
Right to Life believes that the Green Party are planning changes to legislation, in the form of a Private Members Bill, which would outlaw the presence of citizens who gather in peaceful vigils outside abortion facilities. Green Party MPs Jan Logie and Catherine Delahunty attended and addressed a protest meeting in Thames on the 4th August opposing the presence of people peacefully praying outside the Thames Hospital and offering assistance and support to women entering the Hospital for an abortion. In 2015 there were 180 children killed before birth at the Thames Hospital.
The Green Party represents a great threat to New Zealand unborn children. It has an agenda and policies which pursue the decriminalisation of abortion and to remove all legal protection for the right to life of our nation’s precious and vulnerable unborn children. If we want to see the true hidden anti-life agenda of the Greens, we need look no further than across the Tasman at the aggressive anti -life performance of the Green Party in Australia. Right to Life believes that should they gain a share in political power with the Labour Party as part of a future government here, we will see a determined anti-life push to decriminalise the killing of the unborn and restrictions on the right to public assembly and peaceful protest outside abortion mills.
The price for freedom is constant vigilance. We must demand legal protection for the right to life of our children in the womb and protection of our right to free speech and assembly; rights guaranteed in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
The Greens have been ruthless in imposing legislation in Victoria, Tasmania and the ACT, to decriminalise abortion and to impose draconian and repressive legislation that tramples underfoot the right of citizens to exercise their right to free speech and assembly. In those states and in that territory, there is now a legal ban on protesting within 150 meters of an abortion facility. Those who dare defy these tyrannical laws face heavy fines or imprisonment. A brave Queenslander was recently fined $3,000 for praying within 150 meters of an abortion clinic in Tasmania.
Desperate women seeking an abortion deserve love and support. These are evil and anti-woman laws which facilitate the exploitation of vulnerable women and mandate the sacrifice of the defenceless unborn on the altar of “reproductive choice.” Many of the women have been abandoned by the father of their child. They deserve love and support. Many women have been saved from a lifetime of regret and pain by seeking help from those who pray at the killing centres. May God protect them from this insatiable culture of death.
Right to Life commends the courageous defenders of life who gather each Friday outside the Thames Hospital. They give witness to the sanctity of life of the unborn, who are being brought to the Hospital to have their lives violently terminated. They also pray for the mothers who are the second victims of abortion and for the hospital staff that they will follow their conscience and refuse to have the blood of the innocent on their hands. Thames can be very proud of these loving and caring citizens.
