Media Release 31 July 2015
The Abortion Supervisory Committee [ASC] has decided to withhold information from women that could save the life of their unborn child. The drug Utrogestan, if taken within two days of taking Mifepristone RU 486 for a medical abortion and prior to taking the prostaglandin Misoprostol, has a 59 per cent chance of saving the life of the unborn child.
Right to Life first made a submission to the ASC in December 2014, requesting that this important information be given to all women seeking a medical abortion. The ASC responded advising that the drug Progesterone was not available in New Zealand. Right to Life responded, advising that Pharmac’s web site stated that the drug was freely available in New Zealand under the name Utrogestan. The ASC responded stating that it was not available to prevent a medical abortion. Right to Life responded that further research revealed that it was available on prescription and was standard practice to use this drug for preventing a miscarriage and therefore could be used to reverse a medical abortion..
The Committee replied on 30 July; “The Abortion Supervisory Committee (ASC) is confident in the robust pathway that is in place when women are seeking an abortion. The ASC will not be taking any action regarding the use of Utrogestan to reverse abortions.”
Right to Life is aware that saving a baby from the clutches of the abortion industry is contrary to the objective of the abortion industry and would have met with fierce opposition from Certifying Consultants. Right to Life in defence of women and their unborn will lodge a complaint with the Health and Disability Commissioner against the ASC for withholding important information from women when they wish to choose life for their baby and reverse a medical abortion.
“There have been more than 50 deliveries of healthy babies with no birth defects after the reversal protocol and more than 100 other women are pregnant with apparently normal pregnancies after successful reversals,” said Dr. George Delgado, medical director of the Abortion Pill Reversal Program in the United States. The procedure has a 59% success rate. This experience has been published in The Annals of Pharmacotherapy, December 2012.
The culture of death and the abortion industry is likened to a rapacious wolf that thirsts for the blood of the innocent unborn; it will not give up its victims without a fierce fight. It masquerades as an essential health service; the response of the ASC is not surprising. Women seeking a medical abortion have an absolute right to be fully informed of this important development that will save their baby from a violent death.
