President Barack Obama – Noble Peace Prize a Scandal: Letter to Challenge Weekly
Re article “Obama worthy winner” October 19. This statement is challenged; Mother Theresa of Calcutta stated that the greatest destroyer of peace in the world was abortion. President Barack Obama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize on Friday 9 October, but a closer analysis of the award shows his only achievement at the time he was nominated was exporting taxpayer-funded abortions. Obama hadn’t accomplished much else in office when the nominations were finalized. The Norwegian Nobel Committee’s deadline for nominations for this year’s Nobel Peace Prize was February 1, just 11 days after Obama’s inauguration. Yet, at the time, the only bridge building Obama had done with other countries is to take tens of millions of taxpayer funds and give them to abortion businesses like Planned Parenthood and Marie Stopes International.
Those groups would use the funds to not only perform abortions but lobby the pro-life governments of nations in places like South America and Africa to overturn their laws. On January 23, during his first week after having taken over the White House, Obama officially scrapped the Mexico City Policy that protected American taxpayers from involvement in overseas abortions for eight years.
The executive order made non-governmental groups that do abortions in other nations or lobby pro-life countries to overturn their abortion limits eligible for public funds. During the Bush administration, such groups were prevented from receiving the family planning money or any aid through the State Department, if they would not back down from their pro-abortion agenda. Not only did Obama’s order promote abortion on a global scale, it hurt non-abortion groups that provide medical care and services to women and families in foreign nations.Obama’s order will predictably result in a redirection of funds to groups such as the International Planned Parenthood Federation, which are ideologically committed to the doctrine that abortion on demand must be universally available as a birth control method. Obama’s record at the time of his nomination for the Nobel Prize also included a litany of nomination of pro-abortion activists to key positions. That included naming pro-abortion Sen. Hillary Clinton as the Secretary of State, even though she has repeatedly said that abortion should be an international right. Later, Obama announced $50 Million to the UNFPA, the UN population agency that has been criticized for promoting abortion and working closely with Chinese population control officials who use forced abortions and involuntary sterilizations. And while the Nobel Prize committee says Obama has done extensive nation building, the Vatican rejected three nominees for Ambassador because of their positions in favor of abortions. President Obama is not a worthy recipient of the Noble Peace prize.
Yours faithfully
