Following our call for the Abortion Supervisory Committee to deny the Family Planning Association’s application for a license to commit chemical abortions with the harmful drug RU486, a new group has launched Stop Family Planning (SFP). Just like its US counterpart, Stop Planned Parenthood (STOPP), the SFP intends to expose the Family Planning Association of New Zealand for the pro-abortion organisation that it is.
The group’s current mission is to raise awareness to the FPA’s attempt to gain a license which would enable them to commit abortions against the unborn in their Hamilton centre. However it is clear from many statements made by the FPA that Hamilton is just the beginning, and that they wish to establish at least 30 new abortion clinics at their existing centres throughout New Zealand.
By allowing the FPA to achieve this, the Abortion Supervisory Committee (ASC) would be grossly neglecting their duty to ensuring respect for unborn human life as is stipulated in NZ law. An increase in the number of abortion clinics in New Zealand will inevitably lead to an increase in the number of abortions. This would cause our current downward trend in the number of NZ abortions to take an alarming rise. However the FPA disregard this fact as is evident in a statement made in 1977,
…termination of pregnancy by a registered medical practitioner within the first twelve weeks of pregnancy should not be a legal offence.
Stop Family Planning is involved with protests against the FPA’s actions throughout New Zealand, including Right to Life’s protest this coming Friday (click here for details on the Christchurch protest)
