Right to Life New Zealand Inc President’s Appeal 2009
Right to Life needs your generous financial assistance for the legal proceedings being undertaken in the Court of Appeal in Wellington on behalf of unborn children and their mothers. The proceedings are a judicial review of the performance of the Abortion Supervisory Committee, [ASC]. The High Court’s judgment found that, “There is reason to doubt the lawfulness of many abortions authorised by certifying consultants. Indeed, the Committee has stated that the law is being used more liberally interpreted than Parliament intended.”
“The Committee does in fact have the power to require certifying consultants to keep records and report on cases they have considered.”

“The abortion law certainly asserts a state interest in protecting the unborn child and not merely as interest that women may have safe and legal abortions. The law precludes abortion on request and as a matter between the woman and her own doctor.”
The Crown has appealed several findings in the judgment to the Court of Appeal. Right to Life has cross appealed, seeking declaratory orders to be issued to the Committee.
The Society has also appealed seeking legal recognition of the unborn child as a human being endowed by God with inalienable human rights, the foundation
being a right to life. The Society is also seeking independence for abortion counselling from providers of abortion. It is possible that this
important pursuit for justice for our unborn children may proceed to the Supreme Court. Since the Contraception, Sterilisation and Abortion Act was passed in 1977 more than 371,000 unborn children have been killed by abortion. These are God’s precious infants. Please pray for the success of these proceedings and give generously. Donations may be
