The Abortion Law Reform Association of New Zealand does not represent NZ women
This Association is now calling for the decriminalisation of abortion in New Zealand. They claim that the killing of an unborn child at any time up to birth is not a crime.
ALRANZ are advocates of a culture of death. The Association was founded in 1970 and has a national membership of about 200 members, according to their National President Dr Margaret Sparrow. With such a small membership it is clear that the objectives of the Association do not have public support. It is false for them to claim to represent the women of New Zealand. They certainly don’t represent the best interests of unborn children whose destruction they support. Why then do the media constantly seek comment from this small Association on issues concerning the welfare of women distressed with an unplanned pregnancy and the destruction of unborn children?
This Association is now calling for the decriminalisation of abortion in New Zealand. They claim that the killing of an unborn child at any time up to birth is not a crime and that the question of whether or not the unborn child is allowed to live is a health matter and one for a woman to decide. The Association is not the friend of vulnerable women who are distressed with an unplanned pregnancy. They do not offer love and compassion to the mother and practical help to protect the life of her child; instead they offer death to the child as the solution to her distress.
Life is a gift from our Creator. We all have a duty to defend life. The first duty of the State is to defend the right to life of every person from conception to natural death. The State has a special duty to protect the weak and vulnerable in Society. The unborn child is a member of the human family and it is the weakest and most defenceless member of society. The State also has an overwhelming interest in protecting the life of its future citizens. From the moment of conception the new human being should be accorded the respect and protection due to the human person.
ALRANZ seeks to remove the protection of the State for the human rights of the unborn child on the anti life pretext that it is not a crime to kill an unborn child. The Association does not acknowledge that the unborn child is endowed with human rights and a right to life. The Association is silent about the damage done to the spiritual, physical, emotional and mental health of women who are left with a lifetime of suffering and regret as a result of having an abortion. It should be recognised by the community that the Association’s advocacy for the decriminalisation of abortion is a threat to the health and welfare of vulnerable mother’s and to the lives of their unborn children.
