Right to Life wins ruling in court

A Christchurch group taking a landmark legal bid to overturn the way abortions are done in New Zealand has won the latest round of its battle in the High Court in Wellington.

After failing in its political fight to change abortion laws, Right to Life New Zealand launched a judicial review in the High Court, claiming that the Abortion Supervisory Committee was failing to safeguard the human rights of unborn children. The committee oversees the more than 15,000 abortions performed each year.

    • How dare you people preach that abortion is wrong – what do you know? I was adopted when I was 6mths old by an excellent family who loved me and brought me up well, but now that I am in my 60’s I am very insecure, my parents are dead and theres only me. I have found my other family who aren’t very interested in me so aside from my inheritance which has provided a nice place to live, I am sometimes quite sad. I sometimes think that if I hadn’t been born at all, it would have been better. I wish I knew my family, and/or brothers & sisters. Now you people are saying people like me have to be born,I don’t think you know what its like….it would have been better not. I wonder if any of your members have been adopted and know the feeling of not knowing where your blood is and the insecurity of it all? I think its unnatural to play around with what is supposed to be nature. Don’t let people be made because you want them to, if you never begin, you never…..to give away a baby is not the way it was supposed to be. I never had the same feeling for my parents as I have for my own children (flesh & blood).

This is excellent news and a break through for right to life campainers. I thank you and wish you all the very best.

Only last year my 18 year old daughter found herself pregnant with her second baby to the same father who unfortunatly had another girlfriend. She didn’t want to be a mother of 2 at age 18. So with out telling anyone she went to her local GP in Ashburton. She was referred by letter to a specialist with CHCH DHB. She received a letter in the post advising her to report to CHCH womens hospital on a certain date for the procedure to take place. She had NO councelling NO pre surgery visit. I have heard of others since then that have had abortions or got close to having an abortion with NO councelling or advice about where to seek help.
She came to see me at midnight the day before she was to have abortion and now we have a beautiful grandson, James, who has is being adopted by my cousin and his wife who can’t have children.

      He is our wee miracle

      Keep up the good work

      Regards Christine Jones, Timaru

      Susan,

It is sorry to hear that your life has been less than ideal. In the Biblical worldview, that is due to the fall into sin of Adam and Eve and all who follow, like you and me.

I think you need to think thru more deeply the implications of your beliefs as stated above. The only true security you will find in this life is in Jesus Christ. Please, get a Bible and read the gospel of John — it will change your life, give you hope and security, and eternal life where life is perfected. It would only take a couple of hours to read.

      In Christ’s love,

      CN

      To Suzan Meikle,

Before I start, Firstly I want to make clear that Im not taking a stab at you, or at the events of your life. I am however taking a stab at the very core of your values concerning abortion and the value of life. Born or yet unborn. Your life or mine.

You say “How dare you people preach that abortion is wrong – What do you know?” “How dare” we, you, or anyone else not preach that its wrong?

Just for a second lets remove the convenient veneer of the medical term “abortion”or “termination of the fetus” and lets give it its literal meaning. With our little terms of “conscience-convenience” removed it’s the shedding of innocent blood and the taking of human life in context to self preserving convenience & selfishness. What differnce is there between taking the knife to the throat of a 1 1/2 year old sucking his bottle in the cot than the 1-22 week old life growing in the womb. There is none. In heavens eyes its the same, and the price of divine reckoning is high (Genesis 9:6; Isaiah 63:3; Revelation 19:13,15).

Like you said “I think its unnatural to play around with what is supossed to be nature…to give away a baby is not the way it is supposed to be.” How then is it right and natural to cut the body of unborn human being to shreds in the name of “its unnatural with what is suppossed to be nature”. Your logic is skewed beyond your own ability to to reconcile it healthy again. Letting a baby live and be adopted even if a mother actually cant raise it up is always the supreme alternative to killing and bagging it for the dump.

“Why? How could that possibly be true if my life and many others of same upbringing have been so ate up with brokenness and confusion for decades?”

Heres why. Your closing statement, and yea your life, and your longing present something ultimate, not just for you but everyone. You said, you have a nice place to live, your inheritance, and all that goes with it. Yet all the insecurities and rejections, and overwhelming emptiness that go with it not knowing your real family adored you like you did you kids is the governing factor. “I never had the same feeling for my parents as I have for my own children (flesh and blood)” you said. Your desire is that of any human heart. To love, but FIRST to be loved (1 John 4:19).

Im not gonna give an apologetic on God and the bible. But I am going to say this. The crucified Son of God and His shed blood to atone for your sin and heal your brokenness is the means of the warmth and mercy of the Father of Glory extended your way. Your not the product of some weak atheistic world view that says your a random happenstance. You bear the image of the living God. He paid the high price of His Royal Son for you. You exist primarily for His pleasure because He delighted in dreaming you up and forming you and making the way for in Jesus to have the pleasure of walking with Him feasting on the treasures of who He is as the Eternal unfailing Father.

Sincerely and with Honor to you, an eternally valued lady

To Susan , how are you going?I read what you wrote and feel for you.I agree with Nick Badger who wrote the comment above .YOU ARE made in Gods image, that means you are very special .”You are fearfullly and wonderfully made” says God in the bible. I can understand you want security .I am a christian and grew up in a christian family but I tell you I have found the most security having a relationship with my heavenly Dad, God. You said you want flesh and blood ,well I tell you when you recive Christ as your personal saviour you will have his blood running through your veins ,you are born again into his family a spiritual rebirth . He is my everything Mum ,Dad ,brother sister, who knew me even before I was conceived.we are made in Gods image .when we know who he is we know who we are and when we know who we are we see others in Gods image and want to treat others with respect. The 120 ,000 babies thet get aborted everyday worldwide are Gods children with a purpose and future and it greives him so much .They have a spirit and a destiny in God we have no right to steal anothers destiny .I feel compassion for you . I just want you to know thet you are loved more than you could posssibly imagine by your Father in heaven .He is yearning for you to come back to him. One of my favourite scriptures is in Romans “God turns all things into Good for those who love God and are called according to his purposes”that means what ever has happend to you God will turn to good isnt that amazing ? He loves you and has a plan for you Susan. Trust in the Lord with all your heart and he will make your path staight .God wants to lead you to the cross where you can leave your heavy burden and have rest in him.”He came to bring us life ,abundantly,in all its fullness “. He wrote that in the bible and we can only get it throuh him the one who created us and knows everything about us . Just ask him to reveal himself to you and he will!. God can help renew your mind to understand his heart on abortion, its really not for us to decide who lives or dies , look after you self

      much love

      Amy

Unless you know what its like to have an abortion or have been in a position to have to choose then no one’s comments are valid. I know what its like to make this decision and frankly its an individaul situation for each person. Religious zealots will argue with unproven knowledge, most of whom have no experience of this situation. I grew up and went to a Christian school so i know first hand their approach (as with some of the above comments) in this regard however they also need to be open minded and ‘christian’ enough to understand everyone has a choice and to take choice away from people goes against both christianity and our human rights.

    • Dear pw,

Aren’t you pre-supposing something? In all of your arguments here you seem to be assuming that the unborn child is not a human being. Would you offer the same argument that, just because your toddler is difficult or inconvenient you as a mother should be able to kill it? Would you offer the same opening argument to state that unless you have had a toddler you are in no position to argue that it cannot be killed. Of course not!

What is the unborn? If the unborn child is not a human being what is it? Nobody denies that the unborn are human beings. What is this ‘Choice’ you talk of? Whose Christianity are you talking about? Whose human rights are you atttempting to defend?

Healing is available for those woman who have had abortions. There are many organisations that offer non-judgemental help. Right to Life does not condemn woman who have had abortions, but rather our focus is defend unborn human life, to show that abortion is wrong and we work to bring about an end to the high abortion numbers in our country.
